Hello and welcome to the first installment of our journey towards the 2022 Green Fondo Climate Ride. Before we get into details about the ride, donations, and our plans for fundraising, heres a little bit about us:
“The Peddlers”, as we’ve called ourselves, consists of Kalen, Christian, Oliver and Kenan; four childhood friends now living in the Bay Area and LA. While our friendship is deeply rooted, biking has been one the few activities that has both challenged us physically and brought us closer as a group. What we love so much about the sport is well summarized by a quote from Dr K.K. Doty: “Cyclists see considerably more of this beautiful world than any other class of citizens. A good bicycle, well applied, will cure most ills this flesh is heir to.” We believe these sage words, but also believe that it applies to all modes of outdoor exploration: simply put nature and its beauty is worth experiencing. We also believe that nature is worth protecting, which is why we have found so much excitement in the Green Fondo Climate Ride and with it the opportunity to use biking as a way to support the natural world that we all love.

Donations:
An important part of this ride is the fundraising pledge. On top of the sign-up fee, that covers our lodging and ride support, we are accountable for $480 of donations each, with a goal of $1000. As a group we have selected the rainforest alliance, a charity that has been instrumental in protecting the health of the rainforest, supporting sustainable interaction between nature and people, climate reliance and human rights; all of which we are passionate about and the money you donate will directly support!
What all of that means: we are very grateful for any and all donations that you are able to provide and 100% of your donation goes directly the rainforest alliance, which makes a huge difference in climate protection and advocacy!
Fundraising plans
Admittedly, and probably obviously, this is the first time any of have run a fundraising campaign; please bare with us if we fall… we promise to get back on the bike a little smarter and a little faster.
Our primary fundraising ethos is to earn your support and do our best to bring you along for the ride. There are several methods by which we hope to do this including: sponsor me rides, participation in charity events and social media promos (mainly for you, and our, entertainment purposes). If you have any recommendations about other fundraising ideas, please reach out, we would love to hear from you!
Sponsored rides:
The goal here is to go as far and as fast as possible leading up to the big event. Each month, we will announce our distance goals and the ride of the month and at the end of each month we will announce our stats (with Strava posts to back them up). Please consider sponsoring one of the peddlers for one of, or both of these milestones with small donations if they achieve their goals!
Suggested donations: $5 per goal per month

Trash Collection
Another important effort to us is the collection of trash and so, each month The Peddlers will pick a segment of road to clean up. As we ride, we will grab any trash that we see along the way and dispose of it properly! In our monthly newsletter, we will publish the segment which we plan to clean up, and pictures of the trash we collected from the previous months outing. If you believe this effort is valuable, please consider sponsoring us each month as we collect!
